Change champion

It was a fun, award winning culture built on happy hours and traditions, and I was hired to carry it on. Yet as I dug into the operations, it became clear that we needed more spending discipline, more inclusive networking, and more client-focused purpose. Announcing at my first Town Hall meeting to hundreds of employees that we would be discontinuing the weekly happy hours was not awesome. Then I laid out my vision for a more inclusive culture for our employees, our clients, and our shareholders, and addressed their fears for change, and invited in their ideas and involvement; heads tilted and faces relaxed, and I could see them open their minds to a new way. It took incredible persistence, optimism, and openness from everyone, and we enjoyed some of the highest culture scores in the company for the next 7 years.
